Willesden, London

Willesden: North-West London at Its Most Authentic

Willesden sits in NW10 and NW2, in the heart of north-west London. It's one of London's most genuinely diverse neighbourhoods — the food reflects it — and it's far better connected than many visitors expect. The Jubilee and Bakerloo lines are both nearby, and from Willesden Junction the Overground takes you across the whole north and east of London without touching the Underground.

What to See and Do

Wembley Stadium is 15 minutes away by Jubilee line — if you're coming to London for a gig, a football match, or an NFL game, Willesden is one of the most convenient bases in the city (and significantly cheaper than Zone 1). The SSE Arena Wembley hosts concerts and events year-round. Closer to home, Gladstone Park is a proper local park with a manor house, café, and good walking. Kensal Green Cemetery — 10 minutes east on the Overground — is one of London's Magnificent Seven Victorian cemeteries and genuinely moving to walk through. Notting Hill and Portobello Road are 20 minutes by Overground (change at Shepherd's Bush), putting you in easy reach of one of London's best Saturday markets without the Zone 1 hotel prices.

Eating and Drinking

Willesden's food scene is shaped by its communities. The High Road has excellent West African and Caribbean restaurants, and a string of good halal butchers and grocers. La Cave Brasserie on Walm Lane is a proper French restaurant that feels transplanted from Paris — great steak, frites, and Bordeaux. For South Asian food, the stretch of the Harlesden Road towards Harlesden has outstanding Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants. Greens on the High Road is a reliable neighbourhood cafe for breakfast. For a pub, The William IV on High Road is a big, friendly Victorian boozer with outside space and decent food.

Getting Around

Willesden Green (Jubilee) takes you to Baker Street in 12 minutes, Bond Street in 14, Waterloo in 18, and Canary Wharf in 25. Stonebridge Park and Wembley Central (Bakerloo) connect to Paddington in 20 minutes and Oxford Circus in 25. Willesden Junction (Overground, Bakerloo) is the key hub for cross-London connections — Clapham Junction, Richmond, Stratford, and beyond all without touching the Central or Victoria lines. The 6, 18, and 52 buses connect directly to central London.

Best Time to Visit

Willesden is a year-round neighbourhood without major tourist-season peaks. If you're coming for Wembley events, book as early as possible — match and concert weekends fill NW10 hotels months in advance. For those wanting to explore London without the crowds, October–March is when the central areas are less hectic and Willesden's local character is at its most authentic. Summer brings the Notting Hill Carnival within easy reach (one stop to Kensal Green or 3 stops to Ladbroke Grove).

Getting to Willesden

From Heathrow: Jubilee line from Heathrow (changing at Green Park, Canary Wharf, or direct on some services) — around 45 minutes. From Gatwick: Thameslink to Farringdon, then Jubilee line south-to-north to Willesden Green (55 min total). From Euston or King's Cross: Jubilee or Overground connections in around 25–30 minutes.

Local tip: Willesden is the best base in our portfolio for a Wembley event. Walk to your front door from the stadium after a concert rather than queuing at Wembley Central for 45 minutes. The Jubilee gets you there in 3 stops.
